Goal Setting With the Moon- Waning Crescent
This blog series is intended to support you in setting goals in alignment with the 28 day lunar cycle. See the first post in this series if you haven’t already.
Day 25-28
The end of the old cycle. Detach from the world and rest and re-group. Restore yourself in preparation for the next beginning.
The moon will be in Aquarius and Pisces, making esoteric and spiritual pursuits perfectly suited for restoration. Music and art would also be beneficial. Cleanse your space to make room for the next project or goal.
Ask yourself:
How did/does my goal contribute to the highest good?
What should I have learned about myself from this process?
On 4/7/2021 the moon in Pisces is conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius. Jupiter in Aquarius brings expansive, prophetic, progressive energy. It also indicates gain from employment. While the moon in Pisces brings a love of change and diversity, sometimes can make one feel easily discouraged. Adjust your environment to increase your resolve.
On 4/10/2021 The moon in Aries will sextile Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and will remain there until 2024. This placement of Pluto puts emphasis on work ethic, social position, and the disruption of political patterns. The moon in Aries brings the energy of leadership, dominance, and competition this is a favorable combination close out the final tasks needed to attain this lunar cycle’s goal.
Try to wrap up your big project by April 27, 2021 when Pluto goes retrograde in Capricorn and may make progression slower in general.

Day 23 - 24
This phase is when harvests are reaped. Think about your accomplishments. Assimilate the new tasks/responsibilities related to your creation.
Capricorn’s influence on the moon will be with us for this third quarter. A perfect environment for taking on and assimilating the responsibilities your new creation entails. Add your new task list to your plan.
Ask yourself:
- Are more results coming that I haven’t anticipated?
- What is keeping me from adopting X habit (that I had previously determined was necessary for success in this gaol)?
- What does my spirit need in order to keep going?
The third/last quarter moon in our example occurred in Capricorn at 4/4/2021 at 6:02am. Moon in Capricorn lends itself to industrious pursuits. It’s the perfect energy to give your project a final push before the 28 day cycle ends.
On 4/5/2021 the moon will move into Aquarius but the moon is still in its last quarter phase. Lighten the schedule but continue to tackle the to-do list.

Day 18, Day 19-20, Day 21-22
Focus on addressing any personal habits that may be limiting your creation. Share your knowledge, communicate with your supporters. Remove (prune) what is complete.
Ask yourself:
- What characteristics would enable me to achieve the highest, most beneficial result?
- Who can guide me in my next steps?
- Is there an opportunity I have yet to take advantage of?
In our example the waning gibbous moon will be in Scorpio. Your arguments will be shrewd and convincing.
The moon will be in Sagittarius on day 19-20 which makes it an ideal time to take action, especially when it comes to errands that require you to leave the house. Saving paperwork for day 22 when the moon enters Capricorn might increase your productivity.

Transformation, completion and abundance. Let go of everything that doesn’t suit your creation. Gather and analyze data about your progress.
Day 16 - 17
We are half way to our sign post/goal. A detailed plan should be working or a tangible result should be here.
Ask yourself:
- What do I need to adjust in order to achieve this?
- What are my achievements thus far?
- What can I improve?
- Who needs to be brought on board?
- Who needs to have their access limited?
The full moon will be in Libra on March 28, 2021, bringing an energy of partnership and popularity. Some indecisiveness could be a factor. The full moon illuminates all of our possibilities. A moon in Libra may create the tendency to give equal weight to all of the options. Prioritize and remember your goal.
Be sure to come back to the blog on March 30th, where I’ll share guidance on the next moon phase- the Waning Gibbous Moon. Check out the previous post in this series which discusses goal setting with the Waxing Gibbous Moon.

What you put out comes trickling back. Refine ideas and plans based on this information.
This is when your plant or sprout starts poking through the soil. It’s time to find the answers to the detailed questions that your initial research/work uncovered.
Ask yourself:
- Is there anything I still need to know?
- Is there anything I’m missing?
In our example, the waxing gibbous moon will pass through both Leo and Virgo (March 23 - March 27, 2021). The two days the moon is in Leo are great to get the bulk of the creative work related to your goal completed.
When the moon goes into Virgo (March 25, 2021), it will be a perfect time for editing and adding the finishing touches and details to what you have so far. Don’t let Virgo’s perfectionist shadow convince you that you or your work are not good enough. Put forward what you have in confidence.

Day 9 - 10
The first quarter or half moon. Enough time has passed where you can evaluate your creation more intentionally. Convert emotional energy into creative passion. Take action that pushes your ideas forward.
This is around the time that those of us with procrastination tendencies may find some challenges. Use your wishes and plans to remind you of why you have decided to pursue this goal
Ask yourself:
What is the next best step?
What fears need reconciling so that I can move forward confidently?
The first quarter moon in March 2021 is on the 21st, and also falls in the sign of Cancer. When the moon is in this placement, expect intuitive hits related to your goal. Is divination in order?
Early decisions may have to be made. Have confidence about what you know. Don’t fear making these decisions. You will have time to adjust if necessary.

More reflection of the sun’s light is a symbol of expansion. Refining focus and commitment. Your positive thoughts are nurturing (watering) your creation. New ideas and new people.
Day 3 - 8
This next phase begins 2.5 days after the new moon. The moon spends more time in the Waxing Crescent phase because it incrementally makes its way to the quarter moon phase day by day.
This is the planning phase. In the next two and half days it’s time to distill your big ideas into action steps and tasks. All the brainstorming, dreams and wishes from the new moon must now be made in to concrete action steps.
Ask yourself:
- Do I need advice?
- Is more research required?
In our example the waxing crescent moon is in Aries, then Taurus. These signs are perfect for getting things done. Schedule 1 or 2 hard things for the early part of the phase and it will be easier to barrel through.
Be sure to come back to the blog on March 21st, where I’ll share guidance on the next moon phase- First Quarter Moon. Check out the previous post in this series which discusses goal setting on the New Moon.
Goal Setting With the Moon Series
Following the carousel that I posted on Instagram last month, I decided to go into more detail about how one could go about setting goals across a moon cycle. We’ll be using the lunar cycle that begins with new moon in Pisces as our example for this series, but these steps could be applied to any of the lunar cycles.
There are 8 phases in each moon cycle. Each phase lasts approximately two and a half days. The entire moon cycle is 28 days.
The Moon does not produce illumination. The moon is a mirror, reflecting the sun’s light. In this phase we can barely see the moon’s outline because the earth is in front of the moon, blocking the sun’s light.
The New Moon (Day 1 or Day 29)
Start with the new moon. Imagine your intentions (seeds) are germinating underneath the soil. Make new moon wishes, start new projects.
Ideal goals to begin when the new moon is in Pisces tend to relate to esoteric subjects but you can choose any subject or goal that you’re called to. If your goal is to write a book, start your outline when the moon is new.
If I were to start a project when the moon was in Pisces, I would probably involve esoteric elements. Perhaps I would do some meditation and incense, or a bubble bath or cleansing bath before sitting down to brainstorm. Pisces energy is very prone to creative downloads so you may be called to just dump your thoughts on a page. Let it out, you can refine and organize later.
The new moon is geared to brainstorming and getting those ideas out now. Spend the next two days being open to new information about your goal. The Picsean energy needs time to let the vibrations soak in. Remember your new moon wishes and be sure you make some related to your goal. Spend time visualizing and feeling into what you want to experience. Visualize yourself doing the things you will have to do to achieve your goal.
If you are wanting to add some structure to organize your thoughts see if there are journaling prompts or workbooks that could help. Educate yourself about how to set SMART goals if you aren’t familiar. Try using an amethyst crystal to amplify the creative Picsean energy.
Key Questions to Ask Yourself:
- What experiences should I be aware of to create more of what I want?
- What new habits could I adopt that would increase my capabilities to achieve my goal?
- Is there something I need to complete that would make achieving this goal easier?
Be sure to come back to the blog on March 15th, where I’ll share guidance on the next moon phase- Waxing Crescent.
